Srinagar, Aug 23 (KNO): Jammu and Kashmir has the potential to emerge as the “Water Sports Capital of India” if it continues to receive people’s blessings and support, Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma, said on Saturday. The Minister also thanked coaches and parents for their dedication, calling athletes the “ambassadors of peace, prosperity and love.” Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Khelo India Water Sports Festival (KIWSF) at SKICC Srinagar, Minister Sharma, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said the mega event has turned into a true celebration of sports, youth and the spirit of J&K. “This festival not only showcased sporting excellence but also reflected how sports inspire us, unite us and help build a stronger and healthier society,” he said. The Minister congratulated the J&K team for its performance among 28 participating teams and lauded athletes from Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Kerala and others. He also thanked coaches and parents for their dedication, calling athletes the “ambassadors of peace, prosperity and love.” Minister Sharma urged the Government of India to extend a special sports package for border areas of J&K, saying locals there defend the nation without wearing uniforms and deserve equal opportunities. He expressed hope that more national-level events would be hosted in the Valley, allowing athletes to carry Kashmir’s message of peace and brotherhood across the country. “With your blessings, I assure you J&K will surely become the Water Sports Capital of India,” Sharma said, while extending gratitude to Union Sports Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, MoS Raksha Khadse and the Sports Authority of India—(KNO)
